Just goes to show how perspective changes your view of things. I think of those places as large & crowded

I was suggesting more in the area of Portola, Sierraville, Chester...

Ideally, I would like to be in Sonoma County. My mom loved in Santa Rosa for a long time, and as a kid a lot of my family was there its the place I'm MOST familiar with, and I've fallen in love with it...

DHW, my Dad told me to avoid Stockton..
I was actually thinking about heading a little more south towards Merced, my husband hates that idea because he is scared of the heat. Yeah, he's a weenie.
500k is the absolute highest we could spend, but I'm trying to keep it around 100-200k for land. I want to build, 500k would have to include a finished or near finished house. Unless it's something amazing.

Ugh, I dunno.
I might just make him turn it down in the end...

I live and keep my horses in Vacaville, CA and commute to Concord for work. Vacaville is only 40 minutes from Concord. There are tons of boarding facilities from very high end to small homey family barns, which is where I board, in this area. I board and teach at Topiary Farms in Vacaville. Topiaryfarms.com. Only about 20-25 horses, Dan & Ellen Adams own & run the place. My horses and I are very happy there. But like I said, tons of boarding facilities in this area. I would be happy to scout out whatever type of facility you are look for.

There are a lot of great places in the Santa Rosa area as well. That would be about an hour commute to Concord. Santa Rosa gets toasty in the summer as does Concord and Vacaville. Not as hot as Merced though. Housing in Vacaville Fairfield area is very reasonable. Plenty of houses with land.

I'm near Los Banos. Heat yeah, but bearable because we always have a breeze kicking up around 3pm, lasting until sundown. I'm German, if I say it's bearable, it is
Besides, humidity is low.
About half a mile down the road is a place for sale, with acreage, and not little. Let me see if I can find details. I'll PM you then.

Avoid Humboldt County. Sacramento area is expensive, but has some nice stables- Woodland (20 min from Davis) has a few nice stables as well.

I'm originally from the Santa Rosa area. It's gotten huge, absolutely huge but there are still some quieter areas. The cost of living in Sonoma county is high though.

Right now I'm in Marysville. For what you're describing I would look into the Grass Valley/Nevada City area as another poster suggested. Very country, very small and horse friendly with a reasonable cost of living. You might also look into Durham, Brownsville, or Pollock Pines. Those are all around a 3-4 hour drive from Concord IIRC. Way way way farther than I'd ever want to drive several times per week, but you asked for remote. :)
