Now, I've owned a horse before but that was almost 1 1/2 years ago and a lot of it is kind of shady.
Now, from what I've read its best not to feed mules/donkeys actual feed unless their pregnant, underweight, or worked constantly due to their obesity problems. I've also read that high protein hay can cause a lot of problems with them (ie alfalfa hay) and that if they have a rich pasture to graze on constantly that they don't really need any other source of food except the hay during winter.
Now, if this is true, feed would be significantly cheap.
Now, excluding feed how much do you pay YEARLY for ONE healthy horse? Remember to include all the necessities: shots, coggins, farrier fees, wormers, fly spray, ect.
How much would you average the cost of purchasing all the "first horse grooming supplies". Things such as the following: leather halter, grooming brushes, sweat scrape, hoof pick, lead line, fly mask, show sheen.
How much would you average the cost of "first horse medical supplies". Things such as: vet wrap, nolvasan, gauze, ect.
How much would you average the cost of your everyday run in the mill tack (simple english trail tack): saddle, saddle pad, bridle, bit, reins, girth, breat collar.
Anything I've forgotten?
I'm just trying to get a rough estimate on how much I should have for the initial cost of the horse, and then how much I should have for back up money.
I know the prices can very different but try your best!
Thank you so much!
