When we go on vacation, do college visits or make hay runs, the horses are taken care of by a family friend that has had horses for 30+ years. She's fantastic. She stops by several times a day to check on them and informs us if there's anything amiss. Stalls are done three times daily and they're always fed on time. We pay her very generously, but it's so worth it to know your horses are in good hands.

The lady that lets me use her mare, has me watch the barn when she goes away. There are a total of 6 horses. One time in particular she had me watch her horses this winter and the second night I had two more horses on the property that were on the wrong side of the fence because they were someone elses! Lets just say, the girls horses that got out will never again have a girl take care of her horses that knows nothing about them! I ended up taking care of them the rest of the week on top of the other six.

I would only leave my horses with someone that knew what they were doing. Hahah

Finding a reliable farm sitter for 20 chickens, three horses, three dogs, the garden, an hour and a half from town, or leaving the house empty in the middle of nowhere... Uh no.

Last year DH and I had to split our first vacation in 8 years. Just can't do it either!!!
Oh, people DO get frustrated with us too being so "tied down". I'd rather be tied down out here as opposed to always wanting to get away from there!!

I couldnt get there in five minutes if I m at work, shopping or riding one of my horses. Got people I can call if there is a problem. But food water, basic safe areas. Gotta leave em to fate at that point.
