Can't we horse people agree?

Well, a couple days ago I started my horse management class. I've been riding for six years now and have ridden with 3 different horsemen/women, each coming from different horse backgrounds and experiences. That brings my total of instructors to 4. There is one commonality that I have noticed between all of these sources:

Ask each of them the same question, and you'll get 4 different responces.
My theory is only further verified by this forum, as it seems everybody has a different Equestrian style.

I'm not saying that these disagreements on training, riding, colors, etc. are bad. I guess thats the beauty of Horsemanship.

Just thought I'd share my little epiphany. :D

Exactly, one of my first memories is listening to Dad, Mom, Aunt, and Grandparents have an argument about how to train a horse! I've been in the horse world since before I was born and I can't tell you how many different opinions I've heard. All 4 of my best friends have completely different views on horsecare, breeding, and training.

I subscribe to the "keep your mouth shut unless asked or abuse is occuring" club. It works and you end up learning alot about why people do certian things.

Me too!

I like the different opinions! What I don't like is when people try to make you believe that their way is the one and only way to do things and everyone else is wrong. That kind of attitude drives me bonkers. :P
Or when they actually lie about something to back up why they do or don't do something.

It's not the different opinions that drive me crazy...In fact, I believe you need that in order to get everything you can out of a learning experience. What bugs me is when people look past your initial quetion, and begin to attack or quetion your judgement or theory as if it is wrong. Again, you need different opinions to get a 3D view of everything, but you shouldn't chastize others for their opinions/doings etc...

Definitely! I think many opinions are healthy and really no one approach will work for every horse (or rider for that matter). Statistically, crowds are always correct. So the more people you have weighing in, the more likely it is that you will find the right answer! Good epiphany!

I completely understand your sentiment! However, horse people will NEVER unanimously agree on things because:

-All horses are inherently different
-All people are inherently different
-All situations are different
-People come with their own history
-Horses come with their own history

So there is so much room for variation that a thousand different opinions are probably needed, even if it is infuriating some of the time

THe opinions don't bother me. What gets me is when people look down on others becuase that person doesn't ride english or doesn't ride western. I ahve a friend that lives by a gated community and was told she can not ride on the trails becuase she rides western and not english?!?!?! It shouldn't matter what I am riding, english or western, it matters that I am riding a horse. Its all about the horse!!

Horses cant read Text books therefore textbook deffinitions are useless.

Horses are all different and hundreds of different methods and oppinions exist due to the different experiances we have all had.
