canvas boot cleaning

I have the coolest tall boots but the upper is canvas-anyone know how to clean it? Iwas thinking soap and water but the soap gets into the canvas and is very hard to get out.

We used to stick canvas shoes in the washing machine. Those were boat shoes, not riding ones, though. Scrub it with a stiff soapy brush, and then use a high-pressure hose or your shower head to just blast it with water until the soap gets out!
