changing his name

I've had Riley for a few months now and the hwhole time I've been tinkering with changing his name.
...is it bad luck to do so?any opinions on it?

I've never heard of it being bad luck to change a horse's name. I wanted to change Abby's, but she knows it's her name and responds to it.

I agree with gypsy: Change it if you want. He's your horse.

I've changed every horse's name that i've owned. It usually took awhile before I settled on a new name but they've all changed. Some just because I could not stand the first name or it just didn't fit the horse's personality. Nothing wrong with that!!

We change all of the horses' names that are owned by the summer camp I work at. I think one we got a couple years ago was named "Star". She came with a gelding with some other name. We named them Shasta and Fanta. We got a couple more this summer that we renamed Ringo and Rampage.

My farrier is Scotish and he has told me that it is very bad luck to change a horses name. I have went along with it.

Well, as a HUMAN who's changed her name (first, middle AND last-a few times), I've had good and bad luck but do not atone any of it to my name change!

Chiil's name was: Hershey before I got her.

A name isn't just what suits the horse - it's a name that suits the horse to his/her owner. Personally, I think it helps with bonding.
