Childhood horse books

What were your favorite childhood horse books?
I loved all the billy and blaze books, I have a few of them and am currently trying to track down the rest.
A very young rider (i dont hear this one talked of often, so I wonder if anyone else was in love with it)
The saddle club (but I wasnt impressed with the TV series)

And many more but i've forgotten the names, that's why I posted this thread!

I was obsessed with the saddle club. I still have all my books. And I agree the tv show was way off. By the time it came out i was too old for neways, but it still annoyed me that they changed so much from the books

Yeah same, as a kid I probably would have liked the TV series but I was too old when it came out and I had too high expectations, and it was kinda cheesy. I still love the books though

Me too! I still have all of mine on the book shelf (for my future children that I've sworn I'm not having ).

I also loved "The Black Stallion" books, and all of Marguerite Henry's stuff, "King of the Wind" especially.

I also had a picture book called "Rocking Horse Land" that was by far my favorite when I was really little.

"The Black Stallion" I had every one of Farley's books....

One I loved was called "Doodlebug"

One I loved was called "Summer Pony" and the sequel "winter pony"

As I became a teenager, my favorite was "Sundust, Devil Horse"...

Horses are proof that God love's us and wants us to be happy!

Well, I'm old enough that I don't even remember most of what I read, though I do know it included most of the Black Stallion series (and lots of "girl wants horse, girl meets horse, girl loses horse, obstacles overcome, girl gets horse" rubbish).

But what I still have on my bookshelf back in my childhood bedroom (much as I left it 30ish years ago) is Will James! Looking him up, he really dates from my mom's childhood, but several of his books found their way to me. I barely remember them so I can't even say if they're any good, though one did win the Newbery Medal in 1927. I'll have to reread and see what I think . . .

Oh, and My Friend Flicka and its sequels - Thunderhead & Green Grass of Wyoming.

ETA: Oh, of course, I forgot Marguerite Henry until I reviewed the posts and saw someone else mentioning her! I have several of the Breyer boxed sets (book + model) - Misty, Brighty, Justin Morgan.

I would buy all the horse books from school through that Scholastic book club they had up here in Canada.

Thunderhead
Misty
Black Beauty
Flicka
Blaze and Billy
King of the Wind
Nancy Drew: The Secret at Shadow Ranch
Fury
The Black Stallion
National Velvet
Smokey the Cowhorse
Midnight Champion Bucking Horse
A Horse of Her Own

Sometimes I wrestle with my demons. Sometimes we just snuggle.
