Took Cinny for a spin in the arena. He did really really well for his first time in a new place, especially with all the toys, fake flowers, ground poles, etc. He relaxed down after about 20 minutes and concentrated on work. There was another girl riding and one of the trainers was barking at her. She was really frustrated with her horse and having a hard time. She kept looking at me and Cinny with a sad look on her face. It made me think of myself a year ago....riding in an arena with all these really great riders who's horses were doing everything seemingly perfect... and I thought to myself...wow, I'm the "other rider" now...
So I had a little pep talk with the girl later and explained to her that it has taken me two years to get to where I am right now with my horse. Her horse is even more difficult as it's an OTTB with only a year off the track, and she is a green rider. I told her to smile and don't worry about what they can't do yet...as every rider has been in her shoes. Just try to have fun and take her time, she'll get there.
