College Essay Horse Applications

Hi there!
So I have been trying desperately to begin my college essays, and just can not seem to find a good topic. The more I think about the things that are truly important to me, the more I realize I really want to talk about my horse. However, "horses" is a very broad topic and can very easily become extremely cliche. I was wondering if anyone had any really good ideas about specific things to talk about for a college essay? The question is entirely open, so I really can talk about anything.
Help?

How long does the essay need to be? If you need a short essay you could talk about 1) training a foal to lead, pickup its feet, etc. 2) the proper way to saddle a horse 3) there's a good thread just started that talks about what to do before buying a horse to see if you can afford to own one. 4) the best day you had with your horse 5) some funny horse behavior.

I honestly can't remember what I wrote for my college essay (other than that it was probably the hardest thing I have ever had to write) but in any event, admissions people are looking for something which reflects your voice and makes you seem like a unique and interesting individual. They also like the kind of BS which shows how you grew as a person or how an experience changed you. Remember, they read THOUSANDS of these things.

I agree with thesilverspear. You can absolutely write about horses, but make sure that your voice comes through and they get a real sense of who you are. Personal development stories are good, so if you worked through some particularly difficult behaviors/medical issues etc. with your horse, you could tell that story. And at the end write something about how it changed you and made you a better person. If you don't think it did change you, then pretend it did and BS something.
