I would LOVE to take her to a Hydro-Therapy facility. I've seen amazing results! But I cannot find one anywhere! But I'd love to do it.

    What are bungees?

I have only rode her one time since the injury...Just the other week. And had planned on starting her back into full work slowly in April after I got the okay from my lameness vet and XRays verified she was okay.

I had her set up to see a chiropractor today. Because of over-compensating in her hindend. Unfortunately, I had to cancel because she would not have been able to get an accurate diagnosis due to her limping.

So far as hydro therapy, you may want to check out if there are any animal science universities and such in your area? Here, we have Texas A&M university, and their large animal facility has the water rehab get up there. (I don't know about Michigan, though).

I don't think I'd have the ability to give up my horse, but then again, I have my own place with land to keep her on, and I don't have to board her.

I hope you are able to get her fixed up, either way, you at least seem like your being responsible in both her abilities and yours, so kudos there.

Perhaps if she is well trained (and behaved), lease her out to someone learning how to ride and work with horses to cover costs? Someone that doesn't plan to compete or do strenuous activity?

    Good luck!

Bungees are surgical tubing or resistance bands. Gaited people use them as "action devices" but you can also hook them up for some rehab purposes. You would need to consult with someone who knows what would be proper for your horse and the specific injury though because I can't tell you how to hook them up for this case or if they would be safe.

I am having the exact same problem with my gelding. He was my second horse, literally taught me how to ride. But he has a limp from arthritis and I am so sad to part with him. He loves to be worked though and I am to busy for two horses right now. But I want the people that will have him in the future to know what they are getting into to. I am considering free leasing him. They can do what they want with him but I still own him. Then once I know he is in a good spot. I can sell him to them. Just trying to find the right person to take him.

Is it more important to you that you own Rumor or more important that you pursue your riding dream? Rumor may or may not be able to come around. You may not ending as successful as you want to be. Both have risks and rewards, so, which is more important?

    There is no wrong answer.

If it's more important to own Rumor, do what you can and see how things go. If you're riding ambitions are more important, do what you can and sell or donate or lease her. Maybe you could get her walk/trot sound and lease her to a therapeutic riding place or college.
