Question Considering trying my western saddle again - opinions and advice please!

Since I've lost around 28 lbs since I got my mare, and she's put on some muscle, I'm thinking of trying my western saddle on her again. It's the same size (17", wide gullet) as my English saddle but a good deal heavier.

Western saddle weighs in at 35 lbs, I weigh in at 168 lbs.
Total weight: 203 lbs

Mare is 14.3 hh and a solid sort of Arab - not the really dainty type. I would be using the saddle for hacking out in (trail riding), at walk only for now as I'm still getting over a nasty fall. Would quite enjoy the security of my western saddle but don't want to put too much weight on her.

I know she has carried 203 lbs of rider plus an English saddle in the past and was fine. Light riding only; 30 minutes hacking, at walk and occasional trot.

Should I try her with my western? I did ride her in it twice when I first got her and she seemed happy. I was told that an Arab couldn't be expected to carry a western saddle by my YO, who kept complaining about it so I switched to English. But as I say, I have lost a lot of weight since then and horse has put on a lot of condition. I've also learnt more about Arabs and believe them to be less fragile than YO insists they are...

The Western saddle is probably 25 pounds heavier at most, right? That's nothing to a horse.

Also, a western saddle disperses the rider's weight over a greater area, thus the pounds per square inch is LESS, and the horse will often be more comfortable for long rides in a well fitting western saddle vs a well fitting English saddle.

Key words being "well fitting".

Hi, the saddle fits her perfectly - I had the saddler check it when he was measuring her up for an English one. It was just the weight side that was worrying me.
Thanks for responding
