Depends your area really. Depends on where you board, what feed you buy, what accersories you buy for your horse, etc. , etc. It really depends.

Baby, I'm movin' to Idaho!
hahaha! I pay $75 per month but have to buy all food etc. Salt blocks, fly spray, and grain I buy every 3rd since there's only 3 horses there so we split it. Most places start at $150 for pasture with leanto and they supply hay but you never know what quality of hay their going to feed. If you want a stall with turnout it starts at $300. Where I board the stalls are all open so they come in to eat or get out of the weather then can go back out to pasture, so basically a large divided leanto. A friend of mine in WA rents 5 grass acres for 3 of her horses for $100 a month... You just gotta watch for them deals!

Well, I guess it does depend. I am planning to get a horse at least a few years from now, probably after I'm done getting my BFA. In those years I'll probably regularily set away money to buy the horse and other one-time expenses. Still, from the info I've gottten it seems like $5000 per year (not including one-time purchaces) with at least $500-1000 set aside for emergencies seems like a reasonable guess. Though I'm sure prices will change a lot in a few years. Thank you all for the info!

You know, if I did have ONE MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLION DOLLARS to spend, it would pretty much go mostly to horses. :P And goldfish. But mostly horses!

Cool. So what exactly do you do with them? Do you breed them? Sell them or just keep them?

Currently I just keep them. In the future, I may want to start breeding them or, possibly, showing them. For all I know I will be breeding them soon, I'm unsure of the gender of my pearlscale (my telescope if female). It's quite hard to tell with goldfish.

Though if I did start breeding goldfish I'd get myself some more quality specimens, the two I have right now are pet store fish (all I can get up here).

That's pretty cool. But um, showing them? How exactly do you show them? Do you get tadpoles to ride them?
