Haha, no. Goldfish shows work more like dog shows. The goldfish are put into individual tanks and then judges on conformation, size, color, and the like. There are different categories for the different types of goldfish (ryukin, ranchu, oranda, telescope, pearlscale, ect), an open category and categories based on age, depending on the show.

Cool. So um, I guess it doesn't cost as much to show a goldfish then it does a horse.

No, not really . Though if your not breeding your own fish a show quality goldfish can be anywhere from $100-300.

I feel like I'm going to be around the top price, but I think it might be interested to know what it could cost.

Tack: $2500 (English saddle [hard fit, I had to get a Butet], stirrups, stirrup leathers, martingale, bell boots [turn-out and riding, had to be neoprene free because of an allergy], and jumping boots [again neoprene free])

Board: $650 per month +$25 for a heated bucket or a fan during some months

Blankets: $1200 for two sets of blankets (2 lights, 1 medium, 1 heavy) I show and clip in the winter so blankets are needed

Shoes: $100 (my horse has four shoes)

Thanks, so depending on my horses needs, it could go from anywhere from $5000 to $11000. After a preliminary check on the interwebz it seems the average price for boarding per month here is $400-500.
