Cost of transporting a horse from Ireland to the Uk??

I MIGHT be going to Wales next summer for a family get together and thought that it might be fun to bring my gelding and have a bit of a riding holiday there (just trial riding around) after the big get together.
I'd probably drive myself and bring a horsebox on the ferry (heard a lot more people do that) and I looked at a few companies and they allow it but you have to book with freight. I haven't contacted the companies just yet to enquire about price as I haven't really committed to the idea just yet (the get together is definite but I'm not sure whether I should go on the riding holiday afterwards). If anyone has done this before and knows the (average) price I would be grateful (or if anyone thinks that it's just a bad idea).

NOTE: This is a BIG maybe and I am not 100/ certain yet if I should or not. Thanks!
(Mods, not sure if this is in the right forum, feel free to move it if it's not! )

Just call Irish ferries freight. They are easy to deal with and will give you a price. Generally the prices range from 200-300 each way. Know the make and model of the vechile, you need the registration number, ect.

Anytime I've booked a horse to go either way I have it booked within a few minutes. Very straight forward.

It's generally cheaper to pay a professional transporter.
Price depends largely onthr size of your vehicle as you pay per meter
A return RRP can cost anything between 600 and 1500.

Thank you for your replys! Hmm, in actual fact the price isn't as bad as I originally feared! Lol I was expecting at least 2k each way! (which would have been WAY outside of my budget). Thanks again, all replies are much appreciated!
