Creative Keepsakes Anyone?!

I still have the halter my horse came in when I bought him, it's old and kind of raggedy and he has a billion new ones, but I just can't seem to part with this one. I feel like since he's my first horse, I should keep it, but I'd like to do something creative with it and not just have a random halter lying around.

Does anyone have any creative ideas on what to do with it? Or should I just throw it away?

I kind of did the opposite thing.

My horse has never been in a halter or bridle that fit him. It was a metaphor in my eyes of how he just didn't fit the mold of a regular horse. He had a rough past and he was very often misunderstood. So when I got his halter, I left it at the old barn so it can collect dust and be forgotten. It was a horse sized bronc halter, etched with his name. Sure it was pretty but it wasn't him. Just like his past wasn't him.. he's a completely different horse now :)

It all depends. I personally wouldn't keep it but I suppose you could always clean it up and cover it with ribbon so it looks nice or get the nose band replaced with leather and make one of those partially leather, partially nylon ones.

Get a nameplate and put his name on it, or maybe a quote or the date you got him, attatch it to a piece of the halter & cut it so it is as small as you can get it, then attach it to a keychain :) You could also get it embroidered.

I like the last idea. But use the halter pieces as the frame. Or glue them onto a ready-made frame, with a picture of him. Or use pieces of it on your school backpack, or as a purse strap. Sew pieces across the back pockets of your favorite barn jeans. Make a bracelet of a piece with a buckle, or a belt made of the buckle and pieces. I think it's really sweet you want to hold onto it as a keepsake.

Mm i know when my mare passed away.. who had been with me since I was 13.. and she passed on around the age of 32.. so she was quite special to me, I had her halter framed.. Silly I know.. but its the one thing I have left of hers. Plus it sits right on the wall beside her portrait that my parents got for me after she passed.
