    Cross your fingers for me

A few months ago I was supposed to move my horses to another boarding place. They called me and told me that their daughter was moving back from Florida and couldn't take my horses as boarders. So my horses are still at this awful place that hasn't gotten much better. The only thing that has changed is I've stopped putting up with stuff. I don't clean stalls anymore because no matter what I do it seems to be wrong. Example: Clean stall and put fresh sawdust in it, get told that she wanted to switch to straw in that stall or clean stall and get told that she didn't want that stall cleaned she's deep bedding it. I don't help feed because I do it wrong. Ex: I follow the chart she has for the horses but she switches stuff and doesn't put it on the chart so I get told that I'm giving the wrong hay or not enough grain (even when I'm asked to feed). I don't clean anything up because I put it up wrong. Ex: Horse gets out of stall because the gates are all crap, horse destroys everything in the aisle way, I pick it up, BO comes and goes through everything I did by dumping it all back out into the aisle way and re-picking it up. Did I mention she put a rule list up and that I'm basically not allowed to ride if the ground is wet? I haven't ridden in two weeks.

Well I placed an ad in a few newspapers and on craigslist looking for a house to rent until we can purchase. We've decided to save up a hefty down payment and have been working on that.

I've had two responses. We are going to look at both of them on Saturday.

    First:

A bit further for my husband, Joe, to drive to work. Only 15 minutes further but the house is closer to my family and his friends. It's also closer to two other major cities so that if anything were to happen to his job he would have more places to look.

It's a 3bdrm 2 story farmhouse with 5 acres and a barn. Previous owner had horses, so I'm assuming it's set up for them. It cost the same we pay here. The city it is in has a bad side and a good side. We don't know which the house is in. So here is to hoping it's on the better side and it's not a complete dump. Joe used to build houses so if it needs a little work that's fine.

    Second:

Closer to Joe's work but not close to the other cities. Closer to my family and his friends than where we are now. The in-laws like this one because it's close to Joe's cousins, who he rarely sees. It's also a 3 bdrm 2 story farmhouse. It has 15 acres BUT the person who owns it and is fixing it up wants to put cows on it. He MIGHT be willing to work out letting us keep our horses there if we help out with the cows. My step-dad knows the guy and says he doesn't know squat about cattle. Anywho, this house won't be ready for a few months. He wants $100 more than what we pay here.

Anyway it goes we ARE moving this summer so my horses are only going to be at the hell hole til June (when the kids get out of school). To tell you the truth I can't WAIT! I'm so ready to move my horses and move closer to my family.

Thank you guys. I'm just ready to get my guys out of this situation. It was good for about a month but it went straight back to being awful.

I'm crossing my fingers for you to get the first one! My only concern with the second one is the 'helping out' with the cattle. If the second one winds up working out better, I would get a clear definition of what 'helping out' means before you move. I'd hate for you to get stuck with the sole care of a bunch of cattle. I'm crossing my fingers too, that you get out of that horrible barn ASAP!

I think the difference between me and the person who owns the place is I'm willing to learn how to take care of the cattle as he just wants to pawn them off on the renter. I'm not sure if I like that. The best thing about the first place is if we decide we like it we can (in the future) buy it as his intention is to eventually sell. So we could do a rent with possible purchase, land contract, lease to own or whatever comes our way in a year.

I like the sound of the first one better. I'm just hoping it's not in a crappy part of town.

Well... we went today and saw both houses.

The one was perfect. It has a 3 stall barn, hay loft, tack room, grain room with electric and running water. 5 fenced acres, 2 car garage, 3 bedrooms, basement, attic, great school district (right around the corner from the house), turn around driveway, house looks great on the outside yadda yadda. I REALLY liked this place. There is a few minor problems and we are talking through them right now on the phone.

The other house was HUGE, 5 bedrooms! The property was mostly alfalfa hay and only 3 acres are horseable acres. He wants to put pigs, chickens and cows out there and I can keep my horses out there if I take care of those animals. He also wants us to allow his sons to ride their four wheelers and dirt bikes on the property. The heat in this house would probably cost more than the $800 a month rent he wants (old gravity heater)! So that was definetely a no.

Keep your fingers crossed for me. I really really hope the first house works out.
