 I may have a new helper for chores. A student at the school where my bros in law works. This girl wants to work around horses (13) , she has had riding lessons in the past, said she would brush and clean the horses and whatever chores needed done, to just be around the horses.:-p Since she never asked to be allowed to ride:? I am going to let her ride two of the older fairly gentle geldings.
It will be nice to have help with grooming and pen cleaning, and I am hoping she do the hoof cleaning, which hurts my back and knees, or at least help do it !

The problem with getting older, even if the mind is willing, the body does not always allow it.

I always wished that i had the opportunity to do that sort of thing with horses when i was growing up. I really only learned how to ride. I never really learned how to do anything else with horses. So when i bought my first horse at 27 years old... i certainly knew how to ride, but everything else was hours worth of Googling, book and magazine reading, as well as asking loooooots of questions to my vet, farrier, and trainers. Still to this day, I have no clue how to muck out a stall. Sad isn't it?! Good for you for giving her a chance!

What a sweet thing to do! And win-win for sure...she gets to be around the animals and collect valuable experience, and you get free help. That is what I did from age 12, and I absolutely loved even though I very seldom got to ride. She is going to be so thrilled!
