Toughie was bought at an auction a few days ago and now I have some questions. The vet told me that Toughie needs some extra strength TLC and a high calorie diet to start. The farrier is coming tomorrow to take a look at his hooves. Toughie is a 15 hand high Thoroughbred stallion who needs some serious weight put on him. I'm slowly giving him feed, increasing his intake ever so slowly that way he won't colic. The feed I've been using for years is Blue Seal Sentinel Lifetime. Is there a better feed that I can give him that will help put some meat on his bones? Or, can I just increase his feed to a certain point, hay and the grain, and weight for him to put on the weight? He is separated from the others, naturally, and I'm hoping that in time I will introduce him to one of my llamas for a companion. When do you think a good time for that would be? I am thinking it would be best to wait until he has filled out a lot more. Any other advice is also gladly welcome.
