Do you think I'm making the right decision?

lol...no this isn't about me thinking about selling Sonny or anything of the sorts....that's the first thing that popped into my head when I typed the subject. hehe

Anyways, I found out that the old BO, who is located barely 5 minutes away from SCF (Schuyler Creek Farm...the stables I'm at now), has offered to rent out her indoor arena to the boarders during the winter (I'm sure for a fee ). Well anyways I guess that the BO would take up 6 horse's a day max. to go up and ride....first come first serve.

Now I know the old BO is alright with me coming, for she called me last month and said "Well, you're welcome to come back!!!" (trying to get me to board there again...she has had three losses since I left so I know she's hard up on money). But I'm wondering if it would be the best for Sonny to go back there?

The first day I moved him, I noticed a total change around of attitude. He wasn't the scared horse (right brained as Parelli catagorizes them) horse that he was. He has hardly spooked at all...where at the last stables he'd spook all the time. I think just the whole atmosphere of the old stables was bothering him because he was like that when I first moved him to the old stables.
I was expecting him to be just as nervous at the new stables, but he wasn't.

So, I am thinking for the good of Sonny, that I will not trailor him over to ride in the winter. I'll make due with riding on the drive-way or the arena if it's not too icy...and just work on groundwork until the Spring comes.

Do you think I am making a good decision...or do you think I'm just doing it because I still feel hurt because of what happened at the old barn?
What would you do if you where in my shoes?

If the old BO asks why I'm not coming to ride (I know she will because she has stopped by the stables 4 times to see if I was there...each time I wasn't there thank heaven), what should I tell her? I don't want her to get upset or hurt as much as she is now...and considering she had three looses in the last month...Scribbles the pony, Shoni her first horse, and her son-in-law (died of a massive heart-attack last Friday at age of 36....gosh I'll miss him he was always soo kind and would help me dump the wheelbarrow full of manure), I don't want to cause any added pain.

Help! lol

Cookies since this was fairly long
Thanks in advance

i think you made a good decision NOT to go back to that barn. :) sonny has been better then ever since you moved him to this new barn so i wouldnt go back to the old one ever, even if its just to ride.

and showing up to your new barn looking for you.....stalker much?!

Remember that you left there for a reason, there is no need to go back, not to visit, not to ride in the indoor, nothing.

You're doing the right thing by not going back :) There are many things you can do in the winter (there are winter breeches, winter riding boots, etc) for riding in the winter, as well as other activites you can do with him when the weather's bad.

And to trailer him anytime you ride in the indoor, you could stress him out and he *might* associate going into the trailer as a bad thing because he'll be going to a bad place.

yeah I am defiantely not going back. And if by chance the old BO gets noisy and asks why not, I'll tell her Sonny doesn't trailor well (and that wouldn't be lying...cause he doesn't trailor well...he trailors great lol)

Edit: Just wanted to know if everyone agreed that not going back (which was my original plan) was something you'd do....meaning if you thought I was being childish and I should "forgive and forget"

...I say keep your distance and stay at this new place. I just have never liked the way that other BO did you. I never felt like she treated you right..... Just my thoughts...

"Be a best friend, tell the truth, and overuse I love you
Go to work, do your best, don't outsmart your common sense
Never let your prayin knees get lazy
And love like crazy"
