The farmers down the round cut and bale the pasture infront of the barn. I doubt they seed it. They just cut the weeds, dry them and roll them into round bales.

It might be teff grass. If that's the case, then it's usually hit or miss with horses. My girl used to be on it but even though she is a major piggy, she didn't like it much and would only pick at it throughout the day.

I'm not giving it to them. I was just sampling a couple bales and wondered what the heck it was as my original post said, I've never encountered a hay they all together wont eat. And I'm not planning to switch off my hay, I love it, they love it. Just curious :)

My friend gave me to bales to try, she thinks its great but has no clue what it is either.

I will agree, I think its weeds with a little un-planed grass in there.
Not to belabor the point, but can't your friend ask the people she buys it from? I guess I'm having a hard time imagining shelling out a bunch of money for hay and not having at least some idea of what it is supposed to be.

You would think, however she asked in a round about way and the only answer she got was "I buy seeds out of state"
She bought it any way. Not sure why as I'd like to know before buying a load. As my husband told me before I posted here "Theres your answer, its 'out of the state of Michigan' seeds for weeds and weird grass that horses wont eat"
