When I was on interschool with a really strict, mean coach, I started dreading my lessons. She knew what boundaries we (her students) had and would fish out every weakness with our riding. Which is a good thing, but she was very mean about telling us what we weren't good at, and would belittle us if we felt uncomfortable doing something. She made me cry one time when I fell off a 17hh horse was finally back in work after probably a year sitting in the field. She made me feel like a horrible rider, and even told me I shouldn't be at the level I was at and threatened to bump me down to 2'.
Riding with her made me HATE riding. But as soon as I left, it was great again. And, in hindsight -even if her tactics were not great- she did get me to overcome a lot of problems I had.
I have been riding since I was very little and to this day, I still love it.
