For mine, I probably have to only get through college, and then get some funds to start up. And it's not only a horse job.

I'm wanting to get a double degree, in business and in veterinary medicine, a doctrite in veterinary medicine.

Then, I'm wanting to move back to Serbia, and then start a Humane Association here (a real one, not one that just captures strays and euthenizes them (or shoots them) without doing much else), and begin taking in animals as soon as possible. It might start out really small, just a two or three acre piece of land that I'll keep stray dogs and stuff on, and some advertising to encourage pet owners to spay and neuter. But I'm hoping to make it a large thing, like the SPCA or something else similar to what they have in the States.

It'll take a lot of work, but that's my dream.

i'd manage a ranch that specialized in riding for disabled children...I'd probably need a lot of schooling and stuff... but I think that would be pretty kick butt...

I'm living it too! I'm a trainer.

I teach riding lessons, which takes a great deal of patience but is oh so fun and incredibly rewarding.

And I train horses. So basically, if I did any other job I'd be paying to ride. But here people pay me! Plus I get paid to show several horses. The only thing is, most of the horses I ride I'm riding because they're either really green or need some work, so I have yet to find that really special upper level horse I'd love to have. So if I could change one thing, it'd be a big time investor who'd like to get me a nice grand prix horse. Anyone? Anyone?

genology consultant for a breeding farm who trains horses on the side! :D
im so weird
It can be done. There is a girl that I went to school with in a tiny town. She went to college and got her degree in equine reproduction or whatever it is and now she is a breeding assistant for one of the biggest QH ranches here in Texas. Her name is Jessie Waite.

As for me, I am about to embark on my dream job. This spring, I am going to start taking in horses to train for customers. I am really looking forward to it and it seems like every time I turn around, there is another person contacting me. I have 3 QH breeders with numerous horses, 1 Arab breeder with a couple of horses, 1 local ranch manager with a ton of horses, and one member here that may be looking for me as a trainer. :D It's gonna be hard to keep my numbers down to a manageable level. I will probably end up doing some day labor at local ranches and feedlots too just to round out my training and make a little extra money as well (not that I'll really need the money). LOL.

At times I wouldn't mind being a ranch owner, but that is for me a more of a cattleman job than a horse job. Nut a good remuda is every important, too.

My dream job would either be to own my own boarding barn/riding school/breeding barn lol or to just manage a nice little boarding barn of my own. The last one I'm really shooting for! I missed my chance to do it a year ago because of lack of self abilities so heres to hoping something comes around again!

Well I am working on getting a job as a journalist for any type of horse magazine/paper like HI, Practical Horseman etc... Im still in college with a journalism major and a animal science minor. I would also love to be able to start up a Horse/Cat/Dog haven and take in abused/neglected animals and ex-racehorses who need to find new homes because often they end up being bought for slaughter....

americanhorsepubs.org has an internship program you might want to check out. My coach was telling me about it, but I graduate in the spring so probably won't have a chance to do it :/

Oh well. I want to be an artist when I "grow up." Doing commissions and what not, probably on the side of a "real" job. I think it'd be cool to give lessons to down the road, and maybe get a judging qualification who knows.

My dream is to own a farm like the one in the book Hope Rising. Where abused horses and broken people can come to be loved. It would be amazing to see holes patched from horrible past experiences. This has been my dream to own a farm like this for as long as I can remember.

Also, I definately recommend reading Hope Rising and the second book A Bridge Called Hope by Kim Meeder. She is an amazing writer and has some great, and sometimes heartbreaking, stories to tell.

I'd love to be a stay at home mom and wife with at least ten acres and a barn and arena on property. I'd have my retired horse (my current horse now), a younger personal horse, and a re-sale project or two. I'd also like to start and manage a sanctuary for the wild ponies here since they don't have anything as of now. I'd like to educate the public about them and make sure there is still space for them to roam.

As for the less distant future, I think it'd be cool to be one of those traveling horse trainers who goes to your barn to ride your horse and kinda gets around by word of mouth. =P
