Smile Dude Ranches!

Hey guys!

I turn 20 this month, and already my Mum has been discussing my 21st! Well, I don't often ask for loads, but I decided that I'd like to visit a dude ranch next year (probably in summer) and have my Mum pay a little bit towards it.

Can anyone suggest a fun dude ranch somewhere in America or Canada. Somewhere scenic, fun and not too much money preferably (like I said, I've only asked for her to pay towards a little bit, and most of my money goes on my horses haha!)

Also, this is the first time in years I'll have been on holiday (other than a long weekend each year in a cabin in the woods each year) so I'm quite looking forward to it (I'm rather thrifty and miss my horses waaay too much!)

THis is the best resource I know. I used these folks to book a dude ranch vacation for my daughter and myself a few years ago. That ranch was great, but is currently closed and for sale. Anyway-pay attention to what is important to you. We wanted to ride a LOT, so we concentrated on ones that had 4-6 hours of riding per day, and not much else for activities. You can pick what you want..there are cowgirl weeks, cattle roundups, horse roundups......take a look-just depends on what you want to do. It is FUN!

There's a beautiful dude ranch in Bandera, Texas that takes you on beautiful trail rides on mountains and through deserts, with great food, a pool, and beautiful cabins. I believe a one week stay cost me around 1,000. Nice horses, too. I believe it was called Dixie Dude Ranch: http://www.dixieduderanch.com/

Triangle X ranch in Grand Teton National Park, is my vote. Great rides for all levels, amazing mountains. Ride down by the river through the elk herds. Amazing in the fall where the elk bugle. Amazing food and a great family owned operation. If your mom is not a big rider its literally 2 hours from Yellowstone and 30 minutes from Jackson Wyoming.

Have fun!

I naturally recommend Wyoming over our neighboring states even though they are nice enough and full of great people. There is something special about spending time in the least populated area of the country.

Here is a site listing most of the ranch vacation/dude ranch offerings in the state.
Search for Wyoming Dude Ranch Vacations

Quite a few of us who ranch take dude ranch vacations. It's a life that we love, and going to stay at someone else's place is a fun break since we don't have to worry about their water, fences, and grass. Oh, and they cook great meals and have spiffy hot tubs!

Have fun picking your vacation spot and have a great time when you actually go!

I AM SO EXCITED SOMEONE SHARES THE SAME FEELINGS TO DO! i am 20 now, during 21 this summer and i wanna go to a dude ranche and do a cattle drive! no one understands why i wanna do it! Currently my boyfriend loves horses and supports me but since he does not ride, we will put it off for another year probably. (since we also just got a house) however i am so excited someone else feels the way i do! :)

I go to Wilson Ranch every year. They're located in the tiny town of Fossil Oregon. Its truely a beautiful place. Its not so much as a dude ranch as a really cattle ranch with a bed and breakfast (great breakfast). They give 1 hour to all day rides. Also they are a cattle ranch and will let you come work cattle with them. You can do branding in the spring. Or move a few 100 head to new pasture. Or track down a bull with a busted leg and shoot it.Or drag a calf away from its dry mom and get kicked in the stomach... err Maybe they don't let you do those last two normaly. I've been there a lot. Anyway point is its a great place. Phil and Nacy own it and they the so much fun to talk to. Prices are really good too.
