I was at a mans place last week,he was using old newspaper, mags etc for bedding nothing new in that, but I was so impressed with how he was shredding the paper I have bid and bought one on ebay tonight.its a small petrol engine machine called a straw chopper, butnot many people have twigged that you can shred paper through them I believe you can also get a p.t.o driven one

I have a chipper/shredder for lawn stuff, leaves and semi large branches. When I use it, it all goes to the compost pile. I should use it for the horses instead, good use of recycled material. I also have a paper shredder, never thought to use that for animals either. Guess its another environmentally smart thing to do.

Thought about it. Paper isnt that absorbant though. Amish don't even shred the paper first they just lay it down in the cow barns.

I wonder how it would work with chicken. I worry they would just eat it. I may give it a try for nesting material.
