equestrian areas in North Carolina

I am in the process of researching areas in N. Carolina for relocating. I am not sure if I will be boarding my horse or keeping him at home with me. My ideal situation would be a community that has a shared barn and I have noticed a few in NC. I love trail riding and I ride western. As in most areas I have looked it seems as though that is not the norm. In my current barn in NJ we have a mix and it is a very relaxed atmosphere. Can anyone suggest areas (or even better barns) in NC that are not serious show barns. Thanks all for any info. Also any suggestions on other forums that might help. I am not totally stuck on NC, so any other areas on the east coast are possible.
