Equine Influenza

Well EI has just over the last weekend started to spread here in oz it's a big problem as we have never had it before,

We are looking at a 30+ day lockdown of all movement of horses including comps, even vets etc

I don't know too much about it and was wondering if anyone knew many details on it?

Influenza is a common and very contageous respiratory infection in horses. However, it's generally not going to cause severe disease in horses and the virus isn't hardy in the environment.

Well it definitely has spread like wild fire here in oz. Luckily no reported cases in SA as yet.

Though we are still affected, as our annual Royal Show has had all horse events postponed (no small feat) there are a lot of upset competitiors around the place at the moment, but in the end its probably for the best.

I have no idea when the organisers are going to be planning for the events to run again, as they will have to find an entire week that suits everyone. I certainly do not envy them at all.

Yeah Frog alot of shows are getting cancelled or re scheduled

I heard Melbourne royal is also cancelling horse events and our nsw all welsh has postponed from end of oct to either jan or feb next year (can't remember which)

Many people are worried about their quallies for sydney royal too, like I was planning to do a late run for his ridden welsh class but looks like I won't be going anywhere however I agree it's for th best
