Explaining on the Horse Crazies!

I'm new here and don't currently own a horse at this time. I've owned them previously and hope to own another one or two in the near future. My husband is very supportive of my horse addiction but doesn't seem to understand it. I was wondering how any of you may have explained it to your spouse or others what it is you like so much about horses. I tried to explain but he doesn't get it and pretty sure he never will. I guess it's like the connection he gets when he finds a car he really wants lol. I'm just thankful that he is very supportive of it and doesn't seem to mind.

That's the only way to explain it.

"Honey, you know how you feel when you see a ( insert favorite car here ), and then you open the hood and see that engine, and then they fire it up and you hear it purr, then you sit behind the wheel and drive it ......."

That's how I feel about horses. IT.JUST.IS.

Welcome to the forum CoriJ89!

I actually never tried to explain it to my husband. And I don't really need to. He is uber supportive and had no issues when I told him I wanted a horse. He just saw it in my eyes and my smile and now in my happiness whenever I come in from the barn.

The interesting thing, he never knew horses had distinct personalities until I brought home our two. He had never spent more than 5 minutes with a horse prior to that so it completely fascinated him how different my mare and gelding are. LOL

The best thing that works for explaining my love of horses to my husband is hockey. He lives and breathes hockey, keeps up with all the stats and trades etc. and plays ball hockey in a weekly game with some local guys. As soon as I made that connection it was like "Oh, I get it!" :)

I am very lucky, my husband is very supportive and hopes to get a horse of his own to ride with me some day. I'm also trying to learn how to skate for him - I doubt we'll ever be able to really play hockey together, but he loves teaching me and I can tell how much it means to him.
