    Faced with a hard decision

I am having such trouble accepting that we more than likely will not have any studs left after Jester retires. I thought I had Gringo, but I am now seriously considering selling him. I love him to death, but right now I am not equipped to deal with studs. My trainer Toni has offered to pay him of gradually, and Ithink that would be best.

I will still have my broodmares, and my show horses. I'll probably still show him for Toni....So I suppose it's no question. He's just not clicking with me, and it seems that just when I get somewhere with him something happens and we are right back to where we started.

I don't know. My gut says not to sell him, but everything else says it would be so much better. I don't know what I'm going to do without the stud fees though. I could buy another stud, but that could be too expensive.

    Advice is welcome...

I think that is your answer right there. Studs are a huge responsibility and stud fees are really a poor reason to keep one. You said you could still show him, right?

Yes, I most likel could. I already compete with Toni's horses because she is too busy to do it. Since I'm one of her jockeys, she wouldn't have a problem.

I know studs are a big responsibility. I'm just having trouble adjusting to having our four studs to only two, and now only one who won't be breeding. I love stud horses. Mares don't like me much and geldings are just too passive. If I ever have a chance to buy another stud, I'd do it. Every stud I've had has immediately clicked with me...But Gringo just doesn't. Hopefully when we get our stallion runs set up I will be able to buy another stud.
