My husband and I are looking to name our farm...which we will eventually register as a business name but we could use some ideas.... We would like Family Stables as the end half of the name or something similar to that. To give you something to go off of we have 2 pine trees that sit on a little island in our pond, we also have two big oak trees in our yard, all along the front of our property are nashiki (sp?) willow trees, the back of our property has the headwaters of the Genesee River...but it is dry most of the year, our farm sits in a valley and is surrounded by other farms and fields (the farms arent too close but we arent secluded either), and the land use to be a part of my familys old homestead.
I offer no names but just the advice to make it both simple and distinctive. As a business, you will be googled, and you want people to find you on the first try. Is there a reason you don't want to use your own last names? As in "Jones Family Farm"? Sometimes the most obvious is the best.
"Floating Pines Family Stables"
"Pine Pond Family Stables"
"Willowshade Family Stables"
You could also incorporate your family name, the type of riding you will be catering to, or something interesting or historical about the farm or homestead into the name.
When did your family first put up the homestead? What did they farm? Is there an interesting story behind any of it?
@ Avana @ Mulefeather the reason we aren't using our last name is because my sister is also going to be part of the business and I don't want her to feel like she won't have a say in dealings or the business, if that makes any sense. We aren't going to cater to any particular riding as my sister likes to do gymkhana style events and I lean more towards english and jumping. The homestead was first put up in the late 1800's early 1900's..the exact date I'm not sure of but my grandma is 73 and her parents are the original owners and she was their youngest. They mostly did beef cattle and nothing really interesting other than the pond was hand dug by my great-grand uncle. It has been out of the family until my husband and I bought it last spring and when we bought it we didnt know it was part of the original family homestead until my grandma told me.
In Old Testament Israel, every 50ish (I think) years was supposed to be a year of Jubilee when everyone could return to their family's inheritance that had been sold. That's what came to mind hearing your story.
I really like Jubilee though! We just named our farm "Hidden Hemlocks, A Farm and Stable". We have several endangered hemlock trees which are being attacked by a wholly adelgid bug that is killing of Eastern hemlocks in droves. We are ordering a beetle, 500 actually, that is a natural predator of the adelgid that the Forestry Service has been using to combat them!
@Archie2012 I'm in northcentral Pa more specifically Potter County.
