Finding Papers?

Ok im not sure where to put this so I figured this was a good place to start. I had a Quarter Horse Gelding that I was told had papers however the lady I got him from never got the papers when she bought him and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good way to research and be able to find out about papers. The problem is I don't know anything about him other than he's quarter horse, dun, and gelding....any ideas or is this a hopeless search? Thanks for any advice!

Yipes that makes it a bit like a needle in a haystack! Your best bet is to join the AQHA and start researching. They have been quite helpful to me in the past.

Does the previous owner know the last people to have the papers or even their name? Do you know his registered name? Though if he is a gelding his papers don't really matter if you don't plan on selling him.

If you have any hope... it would be to find out who had him before the lady you got him from and if she knows how to contact the previous owner... and then get a hold of that person.. ask if they had the papers.. If not ask for the previous owner before them. The one thing... you should make sure you have a bill of sale if you take this route.

I have thought about that I just have to dig for the old vet papers with the owners name...because she bought him from an auction so im not sure if she really had contact with the previous owners but it sure can't hurt to try! And unfortunatly, the horse in question passed away a couple years ago but I've just always wondered all the years I've had him ya know? But in the end it really doesnt matter I know he was great horse ;) But thanks for your help I will definitely get on the phone! :)

Aww. If he passes away and he was mine I would probably try to find his reg. Paper so I could frame it. I'm pretty sentimental though.

Sorry to hear that. And that is very true. Papers don't make a horse. Personality and heart does.
