    First fall =/

So I had my first fall from my horse today. I am ok just a little sad about the whole ordeal. We went for a ride in the field today even though it was a little muddy since we have been trying to work trough his barn sour issues. And he was doing very well for quite a ways out. My friend that was riding next to me says that he got his foot stuck so I think he must have panicked and thrown me because I ended up on the ground next to his shoulder. It wasn't a hard throw...I didn't even hit my head. Next thing I know I am looking up at his puzzled face. I am a little sad to say that I am too short and it was too muddy for me to get back up out in the field, but when we get back to the barn I did get back up and ride for a while so hopefully that helped something. My sister and friend said that my fall was the most graceful they had ever seen must have been the years of tae kwon do training since me how to "relax" into the fall....the other girl that was with us just laughed at me

Why are you sad? Falling is unfortunately, true, however you didn't hurt yourself, horse was fine, etc. It's called "experience", now you are getting some, just space those experiences out so it's not too painful.

It happens to everyone, just try and work out what you did wrong and what you can do better next time.

In my mind there is this rule (don't know where it came from) but it's basically "if you can't get up on your horse on your own, you shouldn't be riding it", its worth working on some alternatives ways of getting up in case you ever do have to get back on, alone and in un-ideal conditions.

Waresbear I think I am a little sad because I have been working with him since March and we have come such a long way together. Then in August he got kicked in the chest by another horse and had to stop being ridden until he healed. I rode another horse, but still spent a lot of time with Bo brushing and just hanging out with him hoping we would keep our connection going. Then this happens and it just felt like a step in the wrong direction.

And Saskia he is 16.3h and I am 5'10" so usually we don't have any problems since he stands still nicely. The mud and me being a little shaken worked against me. When this rain stops I will be back at it again.

No sadness allowed :) You aren't a real rider until you've fallen!

I still remember my first fall, I was riding a very round pony named Wanda at the YMCA Day Camp I later ran the rider program at (when I was MUCH older). I was the shortest/youngest kid in my group so I had to ride evil pony vs. the nicer, taller horses :)

We were practicing for parents night, where our group had put together a "drill team" type performance to the song La Bamba... pony, I guess, had never heard the radio on before, so when our counselor turned it on for the first time (we had been practicing sans music before) she dropped her shoulder and bolted under the rope of the rope arena (they later put fence boards up), knocking me off onto the ground.

I learned, that you become a real rider when you fall, and I also learned that PONY is a four letter word ;) ALWAYS a learning experience!
