first-time trying out advice?

Hi,

My University recently became eligible to compete. They've just started an equestrian team this year and I'd like to try-out for the beginner walk/trot/canter class (the easiest one). However, I've never done *anything* like this before. I've been riding for several years as a kid, but took some time off in between. This summer I worked a horse stable and have recently taken lessons last fall and this year. However, I still think there's a big chance I won't make the team since I've never shown before. Any advice?? (all appreciated!)

Well i've never done anything like that before either, but it doesn't hurt to try out! Once you try out for a team, they practice and stuff, and teach you things. I tried out for the dance team in hs and never danced before, but I was a quick learner and the tryout routine was tought in a couple days and then you performed it. You never know until you try out :). Hopefully someone on here can tell you what to expect though, sorry!

My advice would be to talk to some of your fellow students or coaches who run the club and see what they recommend and advise and suggest for you!
