Are fly sheets worth it???

Im considering buying a fly sheet, but im not sure if there "worth it". They only protect part of the horse.... well I mean depends on if you get the type with a neck and belly strap. And if you don't, then you still have to use fly spray to cover the rest. I mean, I would definantly like to get her one as I see the advantage of having one, even if you do still need to use fly spray, youll still use less fly spray. And I know they can also help protect against sun bleaching. So I think I want to get one, but what is the "best" type? Kensigtons are a butt load of money, so are the rhinos. Im looking for something cheaper, so what are the best "cheap" fly sheets? Sorry if this seems like a jumbled mess of words, kinda of thinking out load lol.

I've never had a fly sheet, but I own a variety of name brand fly masks and boots. Judging by how most of my fly gear lasts only a season or two--that mesh doesn't last forever--I would imagine that the sheets don't last all that long either, no matter the brand. I have chosen to save my money for tack and training equipment. :)

Really any fly sheet will work, brand name or not they all do the same thing. I'm not sure about tack stores in the us but I paid like 80$ for mine and so far it has lasted through 2 summers already. Also off topic of actual fly sheets have you tryed Garlic? I give my guy like a tablespoon of garlic powder every day and I have actually seen a big difference from last year when I just had the fly sheet on him. Hopfully I kinda helped lol

ya charli girl, that's my other problem. I don't want to shell out a bunch of money and then have it ruined in one season. I have heard of the garlic thing sketter, but can't it make them smell icky (like garlic, I hate garlic) my fly masks have actually lasted me a long time, I still have one from 6 yrs ago that has no tears or anything in it. So hmm I don't know lol.

I haven't noticed any smell from garlic powder, but it helps with flies and is good for their immune system.

I have some that go on like normal blankets to insure they don't get them off and wreck them. If your horse is out in pasture I can see how it might get ripped from rolling or by tree branches in that case you might not want to get one. My horses are in stalls where theres nothing to rip them and their poop is closer to them so, so are the flys so I love having mine. Go on craigslist you can find some cheap ones there that are still good.

I am an avid fly sheet user...

Keep this in mind: the better quality fly sheet you buy the longer it will last.

One of my horses is hard on sheets- I went through about 3 before I found a good one ... the Rambo ones are fairly sturdy, cost around $70-$150 (check Ebay b/c you can sometimes find good deals, I got one for $60 that normally cost over $100) and have lasted me 3 summers so far.

Good Luck

I got a kensington protective sheet for about $75. It seems really heavy because it is not only a fly sheet but it protects from uv rays... but it also keeps my horse cooler than she would be if the sun was beating on her. My mare is a little sensitive to the flies & it helps her so much. She is not easy on clothes & it has held up perfectly, it looks like new.
