Okay, so right upfront, I feel really stupid even admitting to this or finding it such a celebration issue - but I can't help feeling so excited.
Last night I made my very first trip pulling the trailer WITH a horse in it
I've been practicing pulling the trailer, but hadn't been brave enough to tackle pulling a loaded trailer - last night it was do or die time. DD had a 4H meeting/clinic with open arena and wanted to take one of the horses. Since it was my first time and we are still having some issues with Aero and the trailer, we opted to take my sweet, steady Yahzi as the guinea pig.
I *thought* I was being smart - I chose a nice back-road route that would allow me to avoid having to take the highway/go through town -- except it turns out there are several missing signs along the route and we couldn't find two of our turns. I knew where we were, and it was simple to follow the road out to the highway, so I bit the bullet and went for broke. I'll admit it, I was a nervous nellie all the way there.
When it came time to head home, it was like old hat to me. I didn't feel a single bit of the nervousness I had on the way there. Smooth sailing all the way home - I even took the long way just because I was enjoying it so much and wanted to get all the practice I could, lol.
So, now we can really start planning our summer horse travels in earnest --- YAY!!!!!!!!
In my defense, I sold my last horse of childhood right before I got my driver's license, so I never had the opportunity to learn before (and my dad always did all the hauling anyway) - and we only just got our own trailer last fall and I hadn't had a chance yet to figure it all out. It's full-speed ahead now, though!
