When I was 7, I did a girlscout project on ireland and told my mom that when I was 13, I wanted to gallop on a beach in Ireland. She agreed, not knowing that 6 years later, I STILL REMEMBERED. So that explains why I am sitting in my bed at and irish bed in breakfast right now. 2 days ago, we attempted our first beach gallop. It was just me and my mom and a cute polish guy. So to get to the beach, you have to walk up this GIANT mountain of sand. Well it was and unisually nice day and my horse, Rossa, decided that the sand was the perfect temperature for rolling in! When he laid down, I just politely stepped of and he jumped up and I remounted. I know I should have had a crop, but no one knew the horse would do this, so no one gave me a crop. So we get down to the beach and Rossa tries to roll again, I am halfway off when he stood back up, though. Since these horses have been taught that once you are on the beach, you gallop, period, Rossa started running. Keep in mind I am still hanging on his shoulder. Obviously I dropped off and tried to grab a rein, but to no avail. He ran. Fast. So the polish guy (our guide) ran after him while my mom tried to keep her horse, Rebel, from running with them, also to no avail. He took off after them and I began to walk down the bech. At one point I turned around to look at a pattern in the sand, and when I looked back I could no longer see the horses and assumed they had run back upo the moutain of sand, until I saw a navy blue lump rising out of the sand in the distance. Of course, it was my mother. Apparentlyt she had lost a stirrup and bailed. So we enjoyed a scenic walk on a beach in Ireland whileour horses completedq the gallop alone. The End!!!
Yesterday we went back to the beach and I got to do my beach gallop with a swiss girl while my mom and the guide stayed far away so my moms horse would not gallop. IT WAS SOOOOOOOOO FUUNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!! We are going again today, my mom is switching horses to a tiny old slow pony so she can come too and all is well!!!! Sooooo ya post your funny horse disaster!!
