Furious/ ABUSE CASE in kenosha county, WI

I'm sorry, but I need to vent. I am so furious.

At the old place I used to board at (3 months ago), my friend/manager was renting the place out from a man ( *hank*(not real name) ) who lived in Chicago/Milwaukee (not quite sure) and had multiple rental propertys in FL. He had two horses(starlight and colt) that he left in the care of "whoever was renting the place at the time". He NEVER came out and when he did, he jumped on them and ran them silly, doing stupid reining moves on bad footing showing off for friends and family. His horses hated him, when he would go out to pasture to get them, it would take them a half hour to catch them where if it were anyone else, it would take 5 minutes. He was completely ignorant of the daily tasks needed to take care of a horse.

Anyways, after Katrina happened *Hank* lost alot of the properties and having to still pay off loans on properties that weren't even there...he decided to kick us out. So he gave us all 30 days to pack up and move. He came out, yelled at the manager accusing her of untrue things, stormed out and the next day we were all informed we had to leave because he "found" someone willing to pay more for rent. That was all fine and dandy...but there was no one to take care of HIS horses! After we had left the property, my friend (the manager) went back for a week to throw them hay and give water. But after that, she couldn't. She went one day after that and called the humane society because *Hank* had stuck them in stalls without bedding, water, or food.

So now it's present day, a couple days ago, and some former boarders went out under the "pretense" that they were looking for a boarding stable. Out of 11 acres, the new renters had stuck 13 + horses in a small turnout, maybe 1 acre at the most and locked the gate. And in the quanset barn there were cages full of dogs.

Tonight I got a phone call from a friend saying that the cops/hs was trying to get a hold of the property owner (*Hank*) because horses were loose. An hour later I get a message online from my friend who was the old manager saying that the humane society is out there seizing all the horses and dogs because they are in TERRIBLE shape and that the lady who owns them supposedly has a court order saying she isn't allowed to have contact with ANY animals. That starlight and colt have been stuck in a stall since the time *Hank* put them there, with crap past their hooves and hadn't been fed (per lady renter) in over 3 days. Which is probably a lie. Colt's back and hips are all sunken in.

I am just soo...ugh. Colt and Starlight were the first horses I personally got attatched to. I took lessons on Starlight and everything I know about horses, I learned boarding there. I am upset about the other animals but those 2...they're like family. And for that to happen to them, kills me. They are contemplating letting *Hank* take them back but from what I know of him...they better not. He could care less what happens to Starlight and Colt, he shoves the responsibility on whomever is renting the place and doesn't call or anything to make sure they are getting properly cared for. Obviously...since he didn't know anything about this lady and that she wasn't feeding them!

I don't know. My friend is going to head out there in the morning, we are in the middle of a snow storm right now! So I will know more then.

If anyone prays, please pray that the hs will do what's right. Starlight and Colt belong with us, not with *Hank*.

I know! It kills me that this sort of thing goes on...but now I really feel the effects because it happened to 2 horses that I know.
K (my friend and old barn manager) has been calling the director of the humane society and offered our co op property for the time being if they need it. There are 15 horses.

I'll know more tomorrow and I will for sure keep you updated.

Ug!! That's horrible! Poor horses. Some people are just not fit to own horses. At least the humane society got to them before it was too late.

Thats awful I'll say a prayer for them but I think you or the old barn manager needs to call the ASPCA, the newpapers, TV stations etc just anyone who will listen and get the word out this is happening. Hopefully the Humane Society will act quickly and not reward "hank" by letting him go on business as usual. He sounds like a rich money grubber.

Thanks, Vida :) We did contact the newspapers and radio stations to tip them off, but we will see if anything comes of it. We are still unsure of what the HS is going to do with the horses. I just got off work and am going to call my friend about updates. There were 36 dogs, as well! Poor things :( I hope they ALL get loving homes and I hope Starlight and Colt can come with us :) "Hank" doesn't deserve them.

Hey, I have an UPDATE! A local news station picked up the story...FRONT PAGE too

http://www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/15146446.html

As for Starlight and Colt...*Hank* said he is going to try to get a "barn/garage" up down in FL in 3 days but if that doesn't pan out, he'll talk to us about a deal or something. I'm not quite sure about all the details. At this point, I'm sure he sees them as more of a hassel then anything else.
