George's first week home... doing great :)

Here's a couple pics of Wren and George (and Riley, my 3 year old) - he has only been here for 5 days but I am so incredibly happy with him.

Wren and Riley love him. He's unflappable and incredibly cute. I put together a headstall for him using a plain pony bridle and a S Hack, added one of my bling browbands, some pink barrel reins, and a tie-down. He seems to love it - absolutely no head tossing or tension of any kind now.

I am changing his diet over, he wasn't eating his alfalfa hay - just picking at it and pushing it around his bucket - so I got alfalfa pellets and nutrena senior feed. I mix the pellets, senior feed and a scoop of Omega horseshine and add water. He takes his time but finishes every drop. He gets this twice a day. I give him a flake of timothy daily as well to play with though he doesn't really eat it. He is fleshing out really quickly and I hope to have him shiny with a good topline by spring... He nickers when he sees us and comes running for the barn. We stall him for his meals then let him back out with Ivy.

Wren is walking him and guiding him all over and she trotted him today for the first time. I am beyond thrilled with him, and cannot believe we got so lucky in being given him - he's priceless...

I know, I'm probably posting too much, but I am just thrilled with him. He is between 20 and 25 years old, but I just want folks to know how much these old ponies have to offer. I told my girls he's old, and we need to take care of him, and sometime later he'll be too old to ride, but we'll take as may years as he can give us, then let him retire in our pasture. He'll stay here with us until the end - hopefully that is many, many years down the line.

Plus, I am excited.. I ordered his halter on Friday, black with light pink overlay and "George" written across the nose . Ivy hangs out with him, but Whiskey is in the pasture next to them - she's too dominate and will bully him.

My horse family is happy. My kids are happy. I am happy. Even the non-horse hubby says he's a keeper.

What adorable photos! I definitely wouldn't mind more photos. :)

George sounds like the total package. Beautiful coloring/markings and the sweetest temperament. You can't get any better than that!

Be sure to post more photos once he gets his new halter.

He is so cute! It sounds like hes's a great match for your family and that he has found an awesome home. I wish I would have had a chance to have a pony like him when I was little. Your girls look like they really love him. Hope you have him for a long time!
