Congratulations Ash! There is no feeling like being the owner of your own horse. I thought it was an outrageous thought to own a horse without owning a farm of my own. But now I have 3 horses of my own at a boarding stable 3 minutes from my house. Who knew! What a joy for you!

It's much more rewarding because they like you for you and they do things because they want to not for a treat. When they do it for a treat it's a trick not training

First of all, Congrats! welcome to horse world where the horses rule your world lol

Since you already have the day off id spend it just lovin on her grooming her and then just letting her relax in a pasture. Bring a book and just sit with her. Its the best way to get to know her!

Also, you better take photos. Its not even a maybe, you have to take photos its a requirement when one of us looks at a new horse

    Congrats on your new purchase!
I only have one thing to really add here - why wait a week to ride? I rode my gelding within an hour of him arriving at my barn, and same thing again when I moved barns. We expect a horse to show at a brand new venue the same day we haul over there.. I ride 5 days a week, and didn't break that (ie didn't give him a week off) when I bought him or moved him. It allowed us both to settle in while maintaining an already familiar schedule (he had been trained 5 days/week before I bought him too).
    Just my two cents.
