Going away on vacation... :(

So in 2 weeks I am going away to Colorado for a week....I know it doesn't sound like long, but in the past 7 months I have been riding my horse, she and I haven't spent more than a day apart, and she is worked out nearly every day usually with 2 or 3 days off at somepoint during the week. I'm going to miss her a lot, and everyone is sure she will miss me because she is super attached. How can I make it easier on her...and me? And should I put someone in place to ride her while I'm gone or would it be best to just let her have that whole week off?

The horse will be fine without you. Probably won't notice. Enjoy your vacation. Be *appreciative you get one.

I'd just let her have the week off. Unless you think she'll really go bonkers (is she turned out or stalled? Stalled=needs to get out, pasture=let her have the week off) I'd let her have a vacation too! :)

She might miss you - that'll be your reward for coming home! Having a snuggly pony is the best. :)
I'm sure she'll be fine. I've never really left my mare either and I know I would have a hard time leaving her for a full week too. However, I would make myself feel better by making doubley-sure her "horsesitter" knew what they were doing, had everything they could possibly need if things went wrong and everything they could possibly need if things went right, then I would ENJOY my vacation.
I know that the time I did leave Lacey for a weekend, it was a huge relief to have her "babysitter" text me a picture of her and write me a little message about something cute Lacey did that day. A picture a day for a week might be a lot, but maybe you could have someone who's looking after your mare text you a little update everyday or every other day?

And above all, enjoy your vacation! I wish I could have one!

I always missed my horses terribly when I went on vacation. They were at home & my husband & neighbors took good care of them.

She will be fine, as long as she can get out and stretch her legs. Like a paddock or a field. But I'm sure she will like a small vacation too!

My horses have seen me a total of 6 days in the last 3 years.

Just go enjoy Colorado. Its a very beautiful place! And I'm sure your horse will appreciate a week off.

I have to leave my horse fro 6 weeks. I'm going for a short school thing in california. I'm going to miss her so much. If I were staying any longer I would take her with me. My friend offerd to take her to their place and rider her but I think she'll be happier staying at home.:(

My good friend who is also a rider will be looking after her and giving her a good brushing every other day. She'll ride her a little bit also. It makes me comfortable cause my friend knows horses, we show together, and her horse is stalled right next to Allie. Allie is a VERY hyper horse. Not being ridden even for 2 days she normally is at the point where she's ready to buck me. But thanks guys. The texting a picture of her, and texting me updates is a really good idea. I'm going to miss her so much !
