I recently joined this forum and introduced myself.
BTW, thanks for the advice about green broke. It reminded me that I don't heal as fast as I did in my teens.
My wife and I have been looking for two horses. I want one for western trail riding mainly. She rides English and wants to do trail riding as well as some arena work like jumping.
We've been looking at horses. We've found a few with disqualifying faults. One so mellow he was comatose. Another that was afraid of trees. Plus a few that didn't seem right.
My wife has been looking for me as well as for her and suggested we check out Lance, Sir Lancelot, 1098004 at Dream Horse. Last night we took a drive pretty late in awful rain since the stable had an indoor lighted arena and an owner willing to stay up late.
For a 17 year old, Lance is amazing. Sturdy, alert & very friendly. He was a little grumpy at first being kept up late but mellowed out quickly. It was a little rough for me since I hadn't been on an English saddle since I was 13 but I learned what a 'push button' horse is. He was wonderful. Just a light touch on the reins and he was going where I wanted. He went right into a trot for me. I left it at that since the saddle made me nervous. My wife put him through paces and he was flawless with a wonderful gait.
His owner was very helpful. She knew her stuff and motivated Lance with love, not a stick.
We decided this was the horse for us and went for him. We have a couple of busy weekends fixing the fences and doing a little barn work but he should be living with us by the 13th.
We'll also buy his tack. I'll immediately be in the market for a western saddle and will probably be asking questions in the tack forum.
