Well, I might just have to try that someday!

I make all my own bridlework - I haven't bought a new bridle / breadtplate / stirrup leathers etc in 17 years.
One tip for most is learn the basics of saddlery - you will be able to maintain / repair most of your own stuff. A good bridle should last the lifetime of the horse if looked after properly.

Learn how to barefoot trim your own horses feet - I have 8 ( at the moment ) so it saves me a small fortune on farriers fees.

I learn as much as I can about horses health / vet practices - this helps reduce my vet fees .

Generally the same applies to everything - look after it properly and it will cost you less in the long run. This applies to horses / tack / trailers / barns / pastureland - everything

I make my own "custom" lead ropes

For quiet horses, see of your vet will give routine shots, etc. in the trailer and tote them to the office! Office calls are cheaper than farm calls in my area

Unless you are showing and need the certification, you can get rabies vaccine from most farm supply stores (or the vet) and give the IM shot yourself, lots cheaper. IV shots are best given by vets, though.

Baby sunblock instead of official horse sunblock for white faces

I've gotta try that vapor rub trick next time I have a thrushy horse!

1 cup water
1 cup Avon Skin So Soft
2 cups White vinegar
1 tblsp Eucalyptus Oil
~optional, 1 tblsp Citronella oil instead of Eucalyptus oil

That's my recipe and it works great. There are other recipes on this forum and hopefully someone will post theirs.
