Question Half Chaps Questions??

Hello everyone,

I am not sure if I am posting this question in the right section of the forum. As some of you know, I am getting back into riding again. I currently have a pair of black Ariat Heritage Zip III paddock boots. I am looking for black leather half chaps to go with my boots. Should I stick with Ariat for my half chaps(I was maybe thinking of the Ariat Classic III or Ariat Covington)? I like some of the Ariat half chaps, but I also really like the Grand Prix Leather Stretch half chaps. After doing some research, I've noticed some people seem to complain about the GP leather half chaps stretching out over time and some just rave about the GP half chaps. Did anyone experience this problem? Would it look silly or weird to wear my Ariat paddock boots with GP half chaps or do you think it may pair up nicely?

I really want to buy something nice and durable that will last me a few years. Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated since I can't seem to make up my mind....

Thank you!

I would stick with the Ariat. I worked in a tack shop for quite some time and they were the popular choice. Everyone that came in and bought them said they hold up really well. This is just from observation though since I myself have never used them. Hope this helped somewhat. :)

I won't buy anything but Ariat. They are the most comfortable and last the longest IMHO. I have the Ariat Breeze chaps and boots. The chaps are over 2 years old and still going strong even after wearing them 5 or more days per week. The best part is they are machine washable leather! When they start looking bad I throw then in the wash and they come out looking new. After so long they don't look good enough for shows anymore however, so I have another pair of the same type for showing in.

I have both Ariat (not sure which model; I've had them for years for showing) and Tredstep Custom Fit half chaps (got a few months ago for everyday riding). I love my Tredsteps, but this is largely because I have legs that are shorter/wider than average and the Custom Fit half chaps are the first pair I've had that actually *fit* me. I got them for everyday riding, but I like the look of them much more than my Ariats. That could be, again, because they just fit me better.

Same. Absolutely love my Ariats. They're the only boots I'll buy & half chaps. I've had their All Terrain ones for... Oh gosh... maybe 5yrs? I never wore them a lot in the beginning because I didn't like the feel. Now though? I won't wear anything BUT them. Mine as well get worn 5 or more times during a week & usually for hours on end. I even use them when I ride Western >.>

I think Ariats are a great option for half chaps, but try on a few to see what fits you best.

However, I don't like their boots, but have never had a problem wearing Ariat chaps with other boots.

It sounds like Ariat is the winner with all the positive feedbacks. Thank you! I was going to buy my half chaps online but I have a feeling it's bad idea. It is so tricky to try and measure your leg size and to buy without trying it on.. I'd rather spend a little more $ and try it on. I will go to my local horse tack store this week end, try on a few different pairs, Ariats, Grand Prix and even Tredsteps and see which fits best. Thank you again for your input everyone!!

I have the same boots and the Ariat Breeze half chaps. Best money I ever spent. They match really well and stay very cool in the summer.
