Happy 3rd Birthday! (pics)

Today was my gelding's third birthday! I caught both Dakota and Gypsie and let them out in the yard to eat... They ate all the clover they could hold and snacked on carrots and apples and got to hang out in the yard from about eleven o clock this morning until close to five o clock this afternoon. They tore up the garned (thankfully nothing is planted in it) and I rode Dakota around the yard a few times bareback with a halter and had him flex both ways a few times (he's gotten so good at flexing)... then I worked with him for about ten minutes on backing up... I just started teaching him to backup undersaddle the other day and he's picked up on it so fast... but I'm going to have to find another way to cue him to 'back'... Lol. We also worked on him moving off my leg and seat cues... he's got the 'whoa' very well bareback and turns pretty well off leg cues, but we still need a good bit of work to refine everything...

Anyway, I couldn't resist snapping pictures of him now that he's officially three! I know there's no change, but I'm just so glad he's a year older and I'm so proud of him...

I know that Gypsie is a bit skinny... She gets thin this time every year... I think it's because all the nutrients in the grass come 'back' all of a sudden and it goes right through her for the first couple weeks because she isn't used to it...

I also know that yes, Dakota is also a bit ribby... but he's young and he's growing again, so it's fine.

Both my horses were dewormed Saturday... in a week they will get the last two hundred pounds of the dewormer.

So, how does my boy look?

OMG that is soo cute, Happy 3rd birthday bud, I hope your owner is giving you lots of challenges that you want to accomplish!!! Wow, he reminds me so much of my boy when I first got him named Rhiszo. Rhiszo is turning 5 years old I believe this April 29th! Thank you so much for sharing your birthday! Beautiful pictures.
