I've been around horses for six years, and I'm comfortable with them. As long as they don't act up, I'm fine with giving them a little extra rein or slip them an extra horse cookie. I've never really bonded with any one horse though... until Colby came along.
It's like he's part of me. Sometimes in the ring he will act out a bit, just to test me, and its like I'm always three steps ahead of him. My trainer says that when she watches us together in the ring, its as if we are one. Totally in sync.
I love Colby to bits. I love everything about him - good and bad. I love the way he trots alongside my car when we pull up the driveway; him in his pasture, me in the passenger seat. I love the way he thinks he can fool me by holding his breath when I'm tightening the girth. But most of all, I love how he seems happy enough to just be around me. One afternoon I was sitting outside of his stall cleaning my saddle, and he stood there for an hour and a half with his head over the door, watching me contently.
I love my horse, and there is nothing I wouldn't do for my silly boy. If you love your horse for uncountable reasons, and you have a story to tell, post it in response to this. I'd love to hear what you have to say.
