Hardee har har.

It would be different if a helmet thread wasn't started oh, every 20 days or so. The full moon was last week though, so I thought we were safe.

Maybe we could toss in the possible fashion disasters of a helmet.

You know... a braided bun and a pink helmet, what was she thinking!

Now that's an idea! Helmet fashion faux pas!

Conway, as long as the helmet has the right safety rating, you'll be fine. I wear a Tipperary Sportage, but I also have an Aegis. Both have the same safety rating.

Wow... Reading through some of these... I don't understand why people get so defensive.

I'm not in for making someone do anything, I would never force anyone to wear a helmet. My sister doesn't make her kids wear a helmet when they ride horses, I don't wear a helmet when I ride 4 wheelers... Maybe I should.

Sorry I started one of "those" threads :)

How about a photo contest for "helmet head hair"? Mine often looks its' best right after taking off my helmet. . . . NOT!

I've never wore one. I don't own one. I don't plan on wearing one. I know I'm not invincible but I just don't want to wear one. Kind of like seat belts in cars. I don't care to wear those either.

Yes, accidents do happen, but if we wanted to do everything we could to prevent them, we may as well live in a padded room and never leave it. I grew up riding bikes without a helmet. My parents smoked around me. We didnt wear seatbelts in cars. We ran around with sharp objects. All the things they say are taboo today. Still around and kicking.

Off topic but, I was pulled over while driving. I got a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt. I asked the officer why they don't make motorcyclists wear helmets but make people wear seatbelts in cars. He said that if they made helmets mandatory, less people would ride cycles. Everyone drives cars but not as many ride cycles. They make good money (the state) on motorcyclists with fees and such so they don't want to decrease the number of cyclists.

Motorcycle helmets are mandatory here in Virginia, and I haven't seen it reduce the number of riders.

Better not let ND know that. They'll make it mandatory then.

I am one of those helmet-less idiots too, despite the fact that most of my time in the saddle is spent on problem horses and training projects. I have no good excuse for it, I just do not like them. I can see them and it bothers me (I hate hats too), in the summer it makes my head hot, in the winter it doesn't fit over my hear band and cold ears are painful.

A friend of mine was just fallen on and rolled over on by a horse, a helmet would have prevented her concussion. However another friend of mine was wearing a helmet when she fell and because of the extra thickness to the helmet she fractured her neck (Doctor's assumption, not mine)

Any which way I am sad that I cannot participate in the helmet hair photo contest! Can I be the judge?! :)

I had a concussion once. Got it from not wearing the helmet that went with a sumo wrestling suit. It was at a church function with games and stuff, put on the suit and got hit hard, my head landed off of the mat and on the hardwood floor.
