SO, I just moved and I have found a riding instructor here over the internet and I emailed her last month before we moved, now I have to call her to set up a time to meet and I get really nervous and scared to call people I dont know for the first time. I don't know what to say. Do any of you have any ideas on how to make me relax? Or tips on what to say when she answers??
Don't be nervous. Look at it this way. Youre the one hiring her, not the other way around. She needs to prove to you why her methods will suit you. Ask to watch her teach another lesson or two. Be prepared to tell her what you want to get out of your riding and if there are any concerns that you have now. Other than that, take a deep breath and dial her number.
When I was young, I was nervous about calling people I didn't know. I think a lot of people go through that stage. Are you nervous to start face to face conversations? The trainer is just another person, like you. Just think of it like talking to your friends..
No need to be scared of anything. Think about what you want to know, write it down, ask her all your questions and at the end ask for the first meeting. You are her future customer, so shell be friendly, don't worry;-)
I can understand that. I have severe Social Anxiety Disorder (no, it's not just shyness, it's an actual mental problem). I can make phone calls to friends and family, but I can't order pizza or anything over the phone (though I have improved in that I can call if it's important, like paying medical bills over the phone or a potential job calling me). I get very anxious if I'm in a group of people containing over five individuals. I did manage to go to a packed concert in April without issue, but that was only because I had gone to therapy directly before the concert (my mother introduce me to EFT, Emotional Freedom Technique, or "tapping" and it is the first therapy technique that has actually worked for me).
If you can, just push yourself to make the call. If you want to give EFT a shot, one session can last as little as ten minutes and you can do it all by yourself (I can find you some introductory videos if you are interested).
Kind of off topic but consider working in a call center for a while. I used to have trouble calling strangers but working in a call center total got me over that.
Now I don't call people because I just hate being on the phone Posted via Mobile Device
I suck on the phone too, I so sympathise with you!! I'm afraid you might just have to bite the bullet. Just state on the phone who you are and that your briefly emailed. The instructor should recall the emails and know roughly what you want. Tell her that you'd like her help, and if they could tell you a price and possible day they could come out and give an initial look over, that's all you need to do (oh, and have a date in mind so you don't draw a blank when she asks you when is best for you - I do it all the time haha, like I said, I suck on the phone!)
Update: So I called last week and left a voice mail, she never called back, i think it might of been that i was talking so fast that no one could understand me or she just did not recevie the voice mail IDK. So i emailed her last night asking for a good time to call her to set up a time to meet. She replyed this morning and said that there was no need to call that we can meet at suchandsuch time tomorrow! I am Super duper excited!! It has been 6 months since my last lesson, and I am so happy to be starting back up if this all works out, which i think it will!!!!!
So thanks for all the tips and just telling me to do it!!
