Can we talk for a moment about horse auctions....
I went to my very first sport horse auction today with my riding team and our head trainer. My trainer was looking at a couple possible buys. However, when everything started, we were pretty sad to see that the turn out was poor... and not only that, but people weren't hugely motivated to buy.
My favorite was a Dutch bred gelding that seemed a bit hot. They were selling him as a 4 year old super scopey jumper prospect. He started at 50... then 30... then 20... 10... hello? Hello?? Is anyone out there???
He ended up selling for 7500 bucks! Which is unheard of in my area for a young, well bred warmblood. Such a shame. It really made me understand how seriously sad our economy has become. People are not buying... and if they are it's the folks like me, and most of you folks out there, whom are looking for a cool horse at a reasonable price (a few grand... not 5 or 6 figures!!)
Anyone out there been to a sport horse auction recently and seen things go a bit better than they did here???!!
Life seems mighty precious, when there's less of it to waste.
