Horse blanket washing

Soo, my horse blanket is at the point of needing to be washed, and at our local Laundry mat horse blankets are actually allowed! Mom refuses to let me wash my "dirty, smelly, nasty horse blanket" in the washer in the house, so I will do it a Laundry mat. But, when I am done washing it, do I dry it all the way? Or will it shrink if I do that? How do I wash it? Or should I just dry clean it?

Can't blame your mom - I do not wash horse/dog blankets, etc in our home washer either - the heavy weight and excessive hair/dirt can really take a toll on them. The industrial sized washers at a public wash are much better suited to the chore.
What sort of blanket is it you are washing? Different types of materiels go into different blankets and would require different care. Most have a "care" tag on them indicating how it should be washed and dried to best maintain the blanket. Line drying/drying flat would be my preferred method to using a dryer. If there is no tag, you would be better to error on the side of caution as to water temp, wash settings, etc.

I wash once with laundry detergent and a 'boost' pack. Second wash without any soap to be sure the detergent is all out.

Hang dry.

I've washed two recently at different times. Both in our washer (it's a front loader) and I put them out in the garage to dry. They came out really clean until a certain horse got them dirty again LOL

I work at a hotel so we have industrial large washers, so I use those. Never dry them though, I hang to dry.

I wash my blankets at the local laundry mat simply because they have those industrial washers...and I do dry them also, I just put them on a low heat. It takes longer and I dont let them get totally dry but it doesnt damage them and whats left thats still damp I can hang in the barn. I just want to ensure they dont mold since one is really padded.
