Horse Boarding Blues....
Really this is just me venting... I have 3 horses I kept with me on my parents farm. I recently bought a house and moved an hour away from there. The house is on property and my plan is to move my horses there, but we moved to late in the year to put up a fence and shelter so I left them at my parents and hired some help to care for them a few days during the week when I can't for the winter.
One horse who is a new addition to my herd is not able to keep weight with hay only like my other two, so I need to do something to see about graining her. I could have hired help do it at my parents place, but I thought it might be nice to move her to a boarding facility locally and then I could also have a horse near by to ride all winter, the problem is I moved to a "High Rent" area for horses.
By my parents the high end of board is $350 a month, out here board for $350 is really hard to come by, most places are closer to $500 and that is just out of reach. I did manage to find a list of possible option, including one that offered self care for $100 a month 2 miles from my home! I thought PERFECT! I have a barn full of hay, and I could move all 3 with limited added expense! but that barn is no longer offering self care becasue too many of their boarders that chose that option were not feeding there horses so they had to becasue they felt bad and they were losing money.
This is just frustrating. I will come up with something even if that is my current approach of driving to my parents after work on the days my help does not come out to feed, it just would be nice if there were some affordable options for their care by me until I get that fence up at home.
