Horse Career. To be, or not to be?

That is definitely the question.

I'm 16 years old, and thinking about career options.
For years, all I've wanted to do with my life is a career with horses.
I've wanted to be in barn management.

But recently, I'm starting to wonder. Is it really that smart? Sure, I can still ride and compete, and own horses. But is it entirely necessary to have my whole career be around horses? I'm worried about the financial aspects too. I know you can't base everything off of money, but I'm still concerned. I want to be able to help support a family, and in this economy, that would be hard. The industry could get better, but I need to have something that will help.

The biggest problem is, I don't know what else I'd do. I could work at a barn, maybe. But for my career, I am sort of clueless.

Any words of advice?

Riders aren't 16 and pregnant. Riders are 16 and arthritic.

marry money! Okay so maybe not the best advice....hmmm you could coach on the side....or a find a horse career with better pay or have barn managment as your "Main" job and then have another job on the side.

If you want to make a living off of horses, you better open a feed and tack store.

I've decided to teach primary school which leaves me holidays to focus on training my own and maybe a couple of outsiders. I'm also doing a cert 4 in sport coaching equestrian in the hope I can pick up a few lessons on the weekend. I spent a yr doing a full time traineeship in what I like to call practical NH essentially it's NH for the real world.

I love teaching kids so figured why not. It'll give me secure employment ANYWHERE I want and though the pays not great still better then solely working in horses.

Hope that helps!
